Beware of “FREE Snow Tire Changeovers”
Many of the larger tire retailer chains will offer ”FREE tire changeovers” when you buy your winter tires from them. But are they really free?
If you change over to snow tires with a single set of wheels it would be natural for you to assume that the FREE changeover would include the complete mounting and balancing process of re-installing your winter or summer tires on your wheels. In fact, it normally does not. The FREE changeover will most likely include the mounting process only. You will then be charged for balancing of your tires which will be anywhere from $15-$25/tire. Find out what’s behind the word “FREE” by asking the retailer to give you the total cost of a seasonal tire changeover will be each Fall and Spring before you buy the tires.
